Mike suggested that maybe we should have a second rating system, based ONLY on play under tournament conditions (maybe even "real-world" as well as online tournaments), aimed at the most 'serious' players. This might become the real benchmark for top players once it has become established. It will be the main basis for seedings in future online tournaments - see below.
These ratings use the probability-based Elo rating system first used for chess and now used for many other games (it is far from theoretically 'perfect', but is probably the best available widely-used rating method) and will take into account tournament point (TP) scores in all official tournaments. Please note that the ratings to be used for seeding events like the World Championship are based on these ratings but are adjusted if players have played less than the medium-term threshold of tournament games, which is currently G = 36. Please click on the second hyperlink below for details.
