Tantrix in the UK and Ireland

2004 British Open Tantrix
UK Press Coverage

Before the start of the 2004 British Open Table Tantrix Championship ("BOTTC"), BBC Radio Cambridgeshire interviewed entrants Rick Yagodich (GBR) and Petra Wark (NED) on their breakfast show and a story about the event appeared in the Cambridge local press.

The story can be found in the 29 April 2004 edition of the Cambridge Evening News or viewed below, but the best way to see the text at its most legible is to read the Internet version on the Cambridge Evening News' own website. For details of other newspaper stories about the BOTTC, please see below the picture.

The Knaresborough Post reported on Rob Morton winning the British Open title, as you can see below:

The Somerset Standard published a story about Sarah Jackson and Mike Gwilliam (see below), who were sponsored to attend the BOTTC by Wassail Games after winning a local tournament in Frome. The 'Battle for 1st place in the West Country' between Frome and Newton Abbot (see below) should run and run! :-)

Indeed, the UK press seems to love a story about an 'underdog' (given that the stories about the new champion and the top British junior appear to be about the only ones not to have been followed up!), with the Express and Echo in Exeter publishing a story about Paul Smith before the event and two more after he took the Rising Stars silver medal. Meanwhile, the Herald Express in south Devon carried a slightly different story about Paul and Polly Mackay (see below) plus a follow-up - Polly also did well, taking advantage of the fact that she was not in quite such exalted company as Paul on the Sunday by winning just over half of her games over the weekend.

Exeter University's student newspaper Exeposé also covered Paul's exploits - see below or on their site:
